Student Member Benefits

As emerging professionals, once you join SAME, you benefit from an array of programs meant to support your academics career and transition to professional life. Questions about student membership, please contact Member Services at member@same.org.

Student Chapters

Student chapters are located in colleges, universities, and academies across the country. They offer an opportunity for student members to start applying what they learn in the classroom into designing innovative solutions to real-world problems. Because they are sponsored by a Post (local chapter), student chapters also provide an opportunity for deeper connections to local professionals.

Virtual Student Chapter

The Virtual Student Chapter is a boundaryless community that provides student specific workshops and online training throughout the year. All student members are eligible to participate in virtual student chapter programs.

Find out about upcoming Virtual Student Chapter webinars on the College Outreach Community of Interest page.

Internships provide authentic STEM learning experiences for students. SAME recruits internship opportunities from member firms and lists them in the Job Center.

SAME Posts collectively award upwards of $1 million annually for academic scholarships providing student members the ability to stay on their path towards a STEM degree.

Browse the listing of SAME Posts at: https://www.same.org/Get-Connected/Find-a-Post to see if there is one near your home or school that offers scholarship support.

In most cases, students need to be a member of the post offering the scholarship to be eligible. To add a post, log into your member record https://www.same.org/Login with your email address and your web password. Visit the member dashboard by clicking on your name at the top right of the page.  You’ll see “Post Memberships” on the dashboard. Click on “My Post Memberships” and you’ll be able to choose the Posts you’d like to join. Should you have a problem with your login, or need assistance in selecting or updating your Post memberships, please contact our Member Service Center at 703-549-3800 ext. 131.

To capitalize on the innovative thinking of SAME student members, the Society has implemented an undergraduate innovation challenge to identify and recognize their great ideas. For information on the program requirements and how to field a team, click here. All eligible submissions will be marketed to SAME's sustaining member firms.

While programs vary, Posts across the Society foster mentoring activities to aid students in their development.

Find a Post near your home or school and inquire whether they offer student mentoring.

Some Posts will match you up with a local professional and some even transfer your mentoring to a Post near your school to support you at home and at school. You can also grow as a leader through volunteer opportunities at the local, regional and national levels.

"Though my career as an engineer has barely begun, I have had a relationship with SAME since I was in 8th grade when I visited the Northern Virginia Post to present my model rocket. I later received a scholarship to attend the SAME/U.S. Army Engineering & Construction Camp in Vicksburg, Miss., and earned two Post scholarships for college. SAME has provided me with many great connections and networking opportunities all along the way."
