The Society of American Military Engineers is the only nonprofit professional engineering education organization that actively promotes the advancement of both individual technical knowledge and the collective engineering capabilities of governments, the uniformed services and private industry.

Our goal is to unite public and private sector entities and individuals in the A/E/C fields so that we can prepare for and overcome natural and man made disasters, acts of terrorism and improve security at home and abroad.

The San Diego Post accomplishes this goal locally by supporting monthly luncheon meetings and other professional/social activities attended by members of local government, military, private industry, students and other interested parties. These meetings are announced via our e-mail distribution list and quarterly newsletter. We are supported by the national Society of American Military Engineers and publications such as The Military Engineer, which also promotes the interests and goals of our society and its members. Please peruse our website to discover the benefits of SAME San Diego Post membership.

Event Description: Please join the Orange County and San Diego Young "At Heart" Professionals for our pre-Camp Pendleton Networking event! This year we have reserved a private venue specially catered and decorated just for us. We will also be having a fantastic Ted Talk style presentation done by Jennifer Dunaway on Leadership.

Jen Dunaway has a Masters in Civil Engineering and has experience working for the City of San Diego on wastewater facilities as well as the Department of the Navy, at Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command. She worked on the multi-million-dollar effort to upgrade, streamline and replace the aging water and wastewater system at MCB Camp Pendleton, and put in place the planning and design documents to upgrade and streamline the system before moving on to other positions within the Navy.

As an Environmental Engineering Supervisor, she oversaw 20 professionals, including engineers and natural resource specialists. She oversaw the entire Marine Corps environmental remediation program on the west coast as well as natural resource and environmental planning, including the decommissioning of the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant.

As the current Director of Occupational Safety and Health, Jenn has transformed and restructured the entire safety program for 3,400 personnel, reducing injuries by half and decreasing the worker's compensation costs. She is an authorized OSHA 10 and 30 Trainer, an Advisory Board Member for the Executive Engineering Program at California State University, Chico, and is working on her second master's degree. Jen also recently graduated from the prestigious Bridge The Gap Department of Navy Leadership Program.
