MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

What an honor to be serve as the President of our Omaha Post! Congratulations to Natasha Gromak, her Board of Directors and all the Post leadership for a highly successful year leading our Omaha Post. We accomplished so much in 2022-2023 including continuing to grow our Industry Day Event (record registration in 2023), another successful Student Mentoring Program competition, deepening our Student Chapter relationships with the University of Nebraska system and starting a new chapter at Metro Community College, volunteering with Project Healing Waters, successfully sponsoring two new Fellows for our Post, and so much more. The list of achievements in the past twelve months is extremely impressive. Well done to all!

2023 Change of Officers

We are delighted to present the 2023-2024 officers for The SAME Omaha Post. Heading the team is Ryan Watzke as President, supported by Brec Wilshusen as Secretary, Brian Schuele as Treasurer, John Hudson as Vice President for IGE, Tony Lang as Vice President for Resilience, Kandi Srb as Vice President for Professional Development and Personal Growth, Tom Svoboda as Vice President for Leadership and Mentoring, Bobbi Jo Lang as Vice President for Relationships, Rob Hufford as Vice President for Service Members and Veterans Stephanie Ling as Director for Young Members and Student Outreach, Chris Artz as Director for Communications, and Stephanie Heibel as Director for Awards and Recognition. We were honored to have Julia Pluff, the Missouri River Regional Vice President, preside over the installation. Congratulations to the new officers!


Project Healing Waters- July 22nd Outing

SAME’s Omaha Post provided lunch for Project Healing Waters’ Second outing, which was held on July 22nd at Lake Cunningham from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event took place on the west side of the lake at Gate 3 off 96th street.

Thank you to those who volunteered by helping to serve lunch or assisting the participants with fly fishing. Your efforts contributed to the success of the event and made a positive impact on the participants.

SAME Omaha Post 2023 Industry Day

Thank you to everyone who attended our 2023 Industry Day! Both Industry and Government provided extraordinary support of our event as we had record registrations and outstanding sponsorships and booth participation. This event will allow us to continue supporting our Post's scholarship programs and building interest in STEM locally.

Huge thank you to all of our Industry Day Committee members and volunteers, but special thank you to special gratitudes to our Co-Chairs, Stephanie Heibel and Jeanne LeBron, for all their efforts!

During the July 2022 General Membership Meeting Kandi Srb was presented with SAME's Regional Vice President's Medal. The RVP medal is presented to those members that have demonstrated exemplary service to SAME.

In addition, Mike Huffstetler was presented with the Douglas A. Plack Golden Eagle Award. Kandi and Mike were recognized during the 2022 Omaha Industry Day but did not receive their awards until the July meeting due to supply chain issues.

The SAME Omaha Post has installed news officers for 2022-2023. Colonel Mark Himes presented Natasha Hartley with a crystal USACE castle award in recognition of her service as Secretary during his term as President.

In an effort to better acquaint our Post with small business members, time for a Small Business Spotlight has been added to the monthly meeting agenda following the Sustaining Member Spotlight presentation. The Small Business Committee is looking for small business members who would be interested in presenting their business to the membership.

Mary McKernan touched the lives of her co-workers, associates and friends around the industry. She was a long time SAME member and our Omaha Post treasurer. Mary started her career with USACE Omaha before spending 18 years building the federal program at HDR.
