Scholarship Programs

2023-2024 ACADEMIC YEAR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN

 

The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), Hampton Roads Post intends to award multiple scholarships to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) students for the 2023-2024 academic year.  Eligible STEM degree programs include Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design, Construction Management, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Geology, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Mathematics.  Other degree programs may be accepted if they can be shown to relate to construction, operations, maintenance, or protection of national infrastructure (facilities, transportation, energy, water, telecommunications, etc.).  Those pursuing an associate, second undergraduate, or graduate degree are ineligible.

 

It is the intent of the committee to target scholarship awards to Hampton Roads area students attending a college or university in Virginia; however, the Post reserves the right to offer scholarships to any qualified applicant.

Scholarships will be presented to recipients during a special awards ceremony scheduled for June 14, 2023 from 11:30am - 1:00pm at the Westin Hotel located in the Town Center of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

 

 

Current High School Applicants

 

Eligibility:

  • Must enroll in a full-time undergraduate STEM-related degree program at an accredited college or university in the fall term of 2023
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 basis)
  • Must not have received an appointment to a U.S. military academy (or affiliated preparatory school) or be awarded a full scholarship at any accredited U.S. post-secondary institution of higher education. A full scholarship is usually defined as one that provides for payment of tuition, room and board, books, and lab fees.

High School Student Application

 

Current College Applicants

 

Eligibility:

  • Currently in a full-time undergraduate STEM-related degree program at an accredited college or university with plans to continue the program in the fall term of 2023. 
  •  If enrolled in a community or two-year college, the applicant must be enrolled in a program of studies designed to allow the student to transfer directly into a STEM-related four-year program at an accredited university and must be enrolled as a full-time student working toward the degree in the fall term of 2023.
  •  Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 basis)
  • Must not have received an appointment to a U.S. military academy (or affiliated preparatory school) or be awarded a full scholarship at any accredited U.S. post-secondary institution of higher education. A full scholarship is usually defined as one that provides for payment of tuition, room and board, books, and lab fees.

College Student Application

 

Submission:  

The completed application, including transcripts and letter of recommendation, must be postmarked or e-mailed no later than 15 April 2023.  All applications must be submitted as complete in a single submittal to include all required components.  Incomplete applications will not be considered.    An email confirmation will be provided within approximately 7 calendar days of receipt.
