2022 Spring SAME / USAFA Youth STEM Day
This year's STEM Day was a great success. We hosted 29 young boys and girls from all over the Pikes Peak region at USAFA in the cadet area. They all had a great time and none of them blew away. We had over fourteen adult volunteers and eight cadet volunteers that helped make this event a success. Special thanks to Galloway for providing snacks for the youth and breakfast for the volunteers. It was great to be back after the 2-year hiatus.

SAME is a strong supporter of small businesses and the Pikes Peak Post is pleased to continue our engagement by offering small business stipends to attend the May JETC event in Aurora, CO next month. We are accepting a limited number of stipend requests. If approved for a stipend, you just have to demonstrate proof of attendance and SAME will send you a check to offset the cost of attendance, up to amount of the stipend rewarded. Stipend amounts vary but will cover a substantial portion of the cost to attend the conference. Our Pikes Peak Post will be offering the following stipends:

 (2) Small Business $300 Stipends
 (2) Young Professional $300 stipends
 (1) Academia/Non-Profit $300 Stipend
 (4) Uniformed Service/Govt $145 stipend

Please email your interest to Jason Wood and Sarah Hodge and include your goals for attending JETC. If you have already registered, the Post will reimburse you for the stipend amount.

The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), Pikes Peak Post intends to award multiple scholarships to Engineering Students this school year.

Applicants must be enrolled, or planning to enroll, in a full-time undergraduate STEM degree program at an accredited college or university in the fall term. Applicants who have earned an undergraduate degree or who are enrolled in a graduate degree program are not eligible. All applicants must also have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 basis) to be eligible to apply. The minimum GPA requirement applies to both high school and college students. No scholarship will be awarded for those pursuing an associate, second undergraduate or graduate school degree. Applicants who receive an appointment to one of the U.S. Military Academies (or affiliated preparatory schools) or are awarded a full scholarship at any accredited U.S. post-secondary institution of higher education are not eligible to receive funds from this program. A full scholarship is usually defined as one that provides for payment of tuition, books, lab fees, and other related expenses. An ROTC scholarship is considered a full scholarship.
Applicants must be pursuing a four-year degree in STEM from an accredited college or university and either is interested in pursuing a military career or has at least one family member (sibling, parent, or grandparent) who is either:
(1) An active SAME member
(2) A current member of the U.S. military, or
(3) Retired from the U.S. military.

Applicants must be high school seniors expecting to enroll in college for the 2022-2023 school year or returning college sophomores, juniors, or seniors enrolled in a college or university for the next academic year.
Our intent is to target scholarship awards to Pikes Peak Post area high school students and college students. The Post reserves the right to offer scholarships to any qualified candidates.

A copy of the scholarship application is attached. If you have any questions about the scholarship program, please contact the Pikes Peak Post STEM Chair at stacykeiser@gallowayus.com.
