President's Message
Greetings and Happy New Year SAME Denver Metro Post (DMP) Community,
As we enter 2022, I wanted to take this opportunity to remind each of you how important you are to the Denver Metro Post, SAME, and your community. Although we have found some normalcy in our lives, we continue to be challenged to bring back the consistency that we took for granted prior to this time just two short years ago. By now, you have probably learned that the post made the tough decision to cancel the Design and Construction at Hazardous Waste Sites (DCHWS)-West conference planned for Jan 2022, driven by travel restrictions within EPA.
We closed out 2021 strong with a PFAS presentation as well as a briefing on Colorado’s response to emergency management. Additionally, the Post generated donations for the Fort Carson Angel Tree in the amount of over $1,000, comprised of both corporate and individual donations, as well as a Post contribution. Looking back over 2021, the Denver Metro Post was thrilled to have co-led both the Colossal Colorado and USACE Omaha Regional Industry Day events. Moreover, those of us that attended the Small Business Conference in the fall were treated to our first in-person SAME National event in years, and were able to cheer on our very own Russ Cirillo as he was recognized for the 2021 Small Business national level Post Liaison Officer Award - Way to go Russ!
We are looking forward to the first in-person SAME National Joint Engineer Training Conference (JETC) in three years right here in the Denver Metro region in May 2022 at the new Gaylord Resort and Convention Center. The Denver Metro Post is the host post for JETC, and will be soliciting for volunteers to support the event. We will also be holding the regional Rocky Mountain SAME Centennial Celebration during this same time-frame, so be on the lookout for information from both the Post and the National office on these upcoming events. Additionally, we now have information on this year’s scholarship application process on the website. Please make sure to get the word out to those high school seniors interested in a STEM career, or those college students enrolled in a STEM curriculum.
Please know that the Post leadership is looking at ways to bring great content and programs to our membership throughout the year. If you have something in particular you would like to see or if you would like to volunteer, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or another SAME Denver Board Member. As always, I am honored and delighted to be your Post President. I wish you and your family a prosperous 2022, and hope to see you around at our events.
Sincerely,
Brett Jackson
SAME DMP President (2020-22)
