Dear Central Virginia Post Sustaining Members, Members, and Friends,
The SAME Central Virginia Post is dedicated to the health and safety of all its members and event participants. In response to the public health concerns posed by COVID-19, we are closely monitoring updates from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) regarding the situation and will continue to do so. We will be updating our members regarding event cancellations and rescheduling as those decisions are made. Please monitor our meetings and events calendar for updates and webinar opportunities.
With that said, we have made the difficult decision to postpone all of our April and May events. This includes our annual golf tournament, which was originally slated to take place on May 15. We are tentatively planning to reschedule the tournament to align with our Centennial Celebration on 22 October 2020. Our 2020 Leadership Speaker Series events have also been put on hold. We are currently not planning to hold any in-person meetings earlier than the end of Governor Northam's stay home order on June 10.
SAME National has also made the difficult to decision to cancel JETC this year. If you have already registered, you will be receiving updates about the refund process. If you booked your accommodations through Connections Housing, they will also be canceled automatically. You do not need to do anything else. If you booked your accommodations through a third-party site or directly with a hotel, you will need to cancel them yourself.
While there's no denying that we're living in strange times, the Central Virginia Post remains committed to providing opportunities for our membership to connect, learn, and to grow. We are working with other posts in the Mid-Atlantic Region to give our members the opportunity to stay engaged with SAME and earn some CEUs in the process.
If there is anything the Central Virginia Post can do to help you or your organization, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or any one of our board members. We look forward to continuing to support the SAME mission and rising to the challenge of this new normal.
Sincerely,
Summer Gladden, LEED AP BD+C, CF APMP Central Virginia Post President
1. Although it may appear that we are getting off to a slow start, I believe we have made great strides at developing a well-rounded program for this year. The Board and Committee Chairs have meet monthly. We've got some exciting plans that include partnering with other organizations. Thanks again for all of your support and continued efforts to make this a Post that is making a difference. 2. Many of you met Paul Epperson. Lee Ann first introduced him at our November meeting. He has volunteered to Chair the Programs Committee. As an appointed position, I am confident that he will receive the same support we gave Chris Kitts. MG Temple and others have graciously accepted invitations to present. We will have a March meeting. 3. Randy Darden and Bob Donovan have worked hard to get our Streamer submissions in. We continue to grow and were able to maintain the End Of Year Membership Streamer. We have confirmation that the 2014-2015 Emergency Preparedness & Infrastructure Resilience Streamer met the required metrics. I am confident that we will also meet the requirements for the Leadership and Mentoring Streamer. Looks like we have met the criteria for Distinguished Post 2014.
4. Kudos to Nick Hadiaris for his coordination of our monthly Young Members Networking Social event. I am presenting this program at the Post Leaders Workshop. If you haven't participated, then you are missing a treat. We have some dynamic young members who have great ideas and a willingness to serve. As we expand, Nick will begin to target/feature F.SAME members and Sustaining Member Principals to attend the socials and provide short observations on a subject of their choice. We continue to expand our networking opportunities. 5. It's time to roll up our sleeves and kick off our major fund raising effort. Dawn Best needs our help to pull off another successful Golf Tournament. Please contact her soonest to volunteer, sponsor, or play. Why not do all three? 6. I'm off to Phoenix to participate in the Post Leaders Workshop. Giving up the arctic blast and snow for 85 degree weather. Thanks again for your continued participation. Charles A. (Chuck)Boaz, Jr CVP President
