President's Message

The Society of American Military Engineers is the only nonprofit professional engineering education organization that actively promotes the advancement of both individual technical knowledge and the collective engineering capabilities of governments, the uniformed services and private industry.

Our goal is to unite public and private sector entities and individuals in the A/E/C fields so that we can prepare for and overcome natural and man made disasters, acts of terrorism and improve security at home and abroad.

The Chesapeake Post accomplishes this goal locally by supporting monthly luncheon meetings and other professional/social activities attended by members of local government, military, private industry, students and other interested parties. These meetings are announced via our e-mail distribution list and quarterly newsletter. We are supported by the national Society of American Military Engineers and publications such as The Military Engineer, which also promotes the interests and goals of our society and its members. Please peruse our website to discover the benefits of SAME Chesapeake Post membership.

The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Chesapeake Post is offering scholarships to assist college students who are pursuing careers in STEM fields: engineering, architecture, mathematics, technology, computer, or related science (chemistry, biology, physics) degree programs. (Health sciences are not included.) Awards are made on an annual basis and can range from $500 to $1000 per recipient. Students enrolling full-time as a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior in college for academic year 2023-2024 can apply. Former/current recipients must reapply; however, an essay is NOT required. An essay is required for all new applicants or prior applicants who have never received an award. Students who are receiving a full-tuition scholarship (e.g., Science Mathematics and Research for Transformation, US Service Academies) are NOT eligible for a Chesapeake Post scholarship; however, we encourage your continued participation for the mentorship and networking provided by the post.

Process: Interested students must submit a completed application no later than 4:00 PM; 31 March 2023. The application is available for downloading from the www.same.org/chesapeake website by <clicking this link>.
